“We have renovated Chisansu and Kameme health centres which were dilapidated. We have also constructed 13 health posts, eight maternity buildings and 12 houses for healthcare workers,” he said.

Mnenula said they are implementing the project to reduce maternal deaths and reduce distance for people to access quality healthcare services.

A community member Elizabeth Munkhondya of Shumbi II Village said the health centre was small.

She said: “The outpatient department [OPD] was small and it was difficult to accommodate many patients.

“But the rehabilitation of the OPD and the construction of a paediatric wing has created a conducive environment.”

Another community member, Victor Simkonda of Kenya Village said healthcare services have improved because of sufficient space.

Kameme Health Centre in-charge Abraham Mwaya said working conditions at the health facility were not conducive.

“We thank the government for considering the people of Kameme. Apart from adding beauty to the community, the health centre has more rooms and most services are being provided,” he said.

Mwaya said the facility has a laboratory and a room where people living with HIV get their anti-retroviral drugs.

The council implemented the projects under the health sector with funding from the Governance to Enable Service Delivery, District Development Fund, Constituency Development Fund and Health Centre Rehabilitation Fund.
