Strugglers Chitipa United have roped in former Flames international and Civo Service United player, Peterkins Kayira, in their technical panel.

Kayira was spotted in Chitipa United technical area when they beat Dwangwa United 2-1in the TNM Super League on Monday at Mzuzu Stadium.

Alick Phiri and Mwango Phiri helped Chitipa register their second win while Dwangwa scored through Hassan Upindi.

Surprisingly, the team’s coach Kondwani Mwalweni was not available.

Kayira said in post-match interviews that he decided to help his home team after he was approached by the officials.

“It is good to assist the team so that it should remain in the Super League. After all, I am from Chitipa and to be with the team will be like interacting with my brothers,” he said.

He, however, could not say if his stint with the team is long-term.

But Chitipa United general secretary Marshal Mwenechenya indicated that they have taken on board Kayira to fight against relegation.

However, football analyst Charles Nyirenda said the team needs to do more to survive relegation apart from beefing up the coaching panel.

He said: “The team is struggling financially and players’ motivation is low. It would be much better if they pull more resources on players’ motivation,” he said.

Chitipa United are now on position 15 with eight points though at par with Dwangwa who have now moved to the bottom of the table. n
