Former Flames star Dan Chitsulo, whose playing career is in its swansong, has been appointed in the interim coaching panel of SG Köln-Worringen football club of Germany fifth-tier regional league called Landesliga.

Chitsulo and former Zambian international Andrew Sinkala are working as co-assistants to interim head coach Dieter Look Castle who stepped in for sacked coach Koguz Kahraman last week, reads the club’s website.

“Temporarily assistant coach Dieter Look Castle is jointly managing the team with the players Chitsulo and Sinkala. The SG relies on the experience of the two professionals.

“Currently, discussions are held with other coaches. However, the association wants to take your time and look without pressure for a suitable successor,” reports a translated version.

The former Cologne FC reserve player (31) confirmed yesterday through Facebook that he was ushered to the post to double as coach-player. He left Malawi in 2000 and is now learning gardening as a main career.

“And in my first league game, we won 2-1 over [FV Bad Honnef] on Saturday. I scored with a brilliant bicycle kick. Next year, I will start my B licence coaching course. However, to sign Malawi players cannot work at the moment,” said the former Civo United player.

Worringen are placed 11th in Lindesliga after being docked six points for reasons, Chitsulo, who is also the club’s captain, described as “complicated.”

Kahraman got the sack after a cup final loss to a district division club Borussia Hohenlind recently, but he is unhappy with the manner in which club chief executive officer Michael Gensow fired him, saying “the way my dismissal was communicated was disrespectful”.
