Businessperson James Chuma, through his newly established Kings Tin Manufacturing Company, has unveiled a two-year sponsorship deal for golfer Stanford Mayuni.

According to Chuma, the deal is worth over K1 million (about $2 380) a year and will be launched next week.

Chuma said this during a golf tournament Kings Tin hosted at Thyolo Sports Club last Sunday.

“We are delighted to announce the sponsorship of Mayuni who will be the company’s brand ambassador.

“He will be paid a monthly salary, housing allowance and his golf fees for all the competitions will be paid for. We will also buy him all golf-related equipment

“He will be sponsored to go and play in top international golf tournaments in South Africa and across Africa. He is a good golfer and we would like to promote him so that he can be one of the best on the continent,” said Chuma.

Mayuni was in Namibia with the national team for the Zone VI Championship when the announcement was made.

The player said in an interview yesterday that he is excited at the deal.

“I have been talking to Chuma for a long time. He has been supporting me a lot and he hinted at the long-term deal earlier this year.

“I thought he was joking, but he called on Monday to tell me it is now official and everything will be sealed once he returns from China. I am happy and looking forward to the partnership which will help me develop into a top golfer,” he said.

Golf Union of Malawi (Guom) general secretary Hudson Kantwanje thanked Chuma for the initiative.

“We are delighted to learn of the sponsorship. This will go a long way in improving Mayuni’s game and golf in general in Malawi. He is a fantastic young national team golfer.
