Religious leaders on Monday sought God’s intervention before the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) released its May 20 Tripartite Elections results last week.

One of the prayer coordinators Apostle Charles Tsukuluza said the clergy eld the prayers at the national tally centre in Blantyre because progress had stagnated, resulting in national tension and anxiety.

“After some consultations with various stakeholders, we thought of praying for the country not to be held at ransom, but God to give the way forward to MEC and all stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

“We prayed for God’s guidance to MEC chairperson Maxon Mbendera so that all competing parties are satisfied with the results, especially the voters. We do not want to see the country continue at a standstill,” said Tsukuluza.

Agenda  items included praying for presidential candidates to be guided by the Holy Spirit, MEC commissioners and staff to put Malawi before personal wishes.

The clergy also prayed for unity among churches and all Malawians.

The guiding books for the prayers were taken from 2 Chronicles 7:11-13 and Matthews 18:19.

Also in attendance were Apostle Madalitso Mbewe, Bishop Matoga, Bishop Mark Kambalazaza, the Reverend Alexander Benson Maulana,  nPastor Triza Gunde, Pastor Edward Kankhwani, Reverend Enos Muhiwa, Pastor Augustine Mgala, Pastor Dzowa and Bishop James Mkoko among many others.
