Clever Lulu

The cream of Malawi’s urban music gathered at Club 24/7 around Kameza roundabout in Blantyre on Saturday night.

The evergreen Piksy, amapiano king Zeze Kingston and music ace Lulu were the pick on the menu.

Unsurprisingly, the venue was filled to the brim as music lovers made sure they partook of what promised to be a sumptuous music meal.

Spy T and Mahema Band were the first to warm up the stage followed by Nepman.

The flow of events was smooth. The transition in between the acts was well managed thus far and Piksy was next on the line.

The Itsanana hitmaker did not take long to get his groove on. Moments after his arrival on stage he had the audience singing along to some of his popular songs such as Unamata, Uncle Short One, Itsanana and others.

The artist of the moment Zeze Kingston then took his turn. As expected, his arrival on stage was met with a rapturous applause. The audience sounded his trademark phrase: Zeze, we wanna party.

The sound system was, however, a drawback and his stay on stage was marked with interruptions which affected his rhythm.

However, a dent on the flow of things was soon to arrive.

Lulu’s turn was nigh and the director of events called out for his appearance. Surprisingly, there was no sight of the Lilongwe-based artist until after 50 minutes of waiting.

After the long and anxious wait, Lulu and his Mathumela Band appeared on stage. He didn’t go into explanations as he went straight into the music business with his song Mukukanika Bwanji Kukhululuka.

The reaction from the audience showed he was quickly forgiven for his delay.

He kept the party on until the wee hours of Sunday when he bowed out of stage. His magic  saved him.
