Clubs yet to get Sulom, FAM subventions
Some TNM Super League clubs have cried foul over delays in the disbursement of the K20 million subvention 11 weeks into the 2025 season.
The clubs are entitled K10 million from sponsors TNM plc through Super League of Malawi (Sulom) while Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is responsible for the remainder.
The delay has left clubs, especially those without steady sponsorship, struggling financially.

Karonga United general secretary Ramzy Simwaka in an interview yesterday said they are barely surviving as they had budgeted for the money.
“We had budgeted that we would get at least something by May. Unfortunately, there is nothing.
“When we try to enquire from Sulom and FAM, there is no explanation.
“We have been hit hard as we have had to travel to fulfil fixtures which are very expensive. As I am talking to you, we are yet to pay our players their salaries and allowances.”
His Mighty Tigers counterpart
Chisomo Sabola also said the delay has affected their operations.
He said: “Our sponsorship is not much so the subvention gives us a big push in terms of things like equipment, travel and accommodation for away games.
“But we have an assurance from Sulom that the process has started, so we are eagerly waiting.”
FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the delay to pay their share of subvention.
He said: “I have to check with the general secretary on the progress of the subvention payment.”
On his part, Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said they prioritised the annual general meeting held in February.
“We received the first chunk and used it for the AGM,” he said.
Banda, however, could not say when the TNM plc chunk would be disbursed.
TNM plc marketing director Sobhuza Ngwenya was also not available for comment.
Last season, TNM plc announced the sponsorship increment from K150 million to K500 million with clubs getting K10 million up from K4 million.
However, it was also the same old story as the subvention was paid four months after the season had already kicked off
