Communities build house for healthcare worker
Tigwirane Manja Aids Support Organisation and community members in Senior Chief Wimbe in Kasungu have constructed a house for a disease control and surveillance assistant.
Speaking on Wednesday during the handover to Kasungu District Council, Tigwirane Manja Aids Organisation director Peter Minjale said they wanted the health worker to operate from the area.
He said it was important for disease control and surveillance assistants, formerly known as health surveillance assistants, to stay among communities to provide their services.

Group village head Chakwanira thanked the organisation for the support.
“We want the healthcare worker as soon as possible so that women should stop travelling long distances to access antenatal and under-five services,” he said.
Kasungu district environmental health officer Rudolf Banda commended the organisation for constructing the house.
“As government, our wish is that every disease control and surveillance assistant should reside in their given catchment areas, but this does not happen due to lack of accommodation in the areas,” he said.
Banda said the health worker to be deployed in the area has been notified.
The organisation, with support from Bridges to Malawi, also donated a blood pressure testing machine to be used by the health worker.
