Construction of Chingadzi priest’s house takes shape

They received lukewarm support from the public, but this did not discourage Christians of Chingadzi Parish in Thyolo from going ahead with a project to build a house for their priests.

The parishioners have been mobilising resources from well-wishers for the project after the priest’s house was razed down by fire in November 2012.

Parish Priest, Father Frank Mwinganyama, recently told Nation on Sunday that construction had started albeit with measly resources.

Mwinganyama, who has been forced to operate from Nguludi Parish—20 kilometres away from what used to be his base, said construction had started on trust that well-wishers will help at a later stage.

Chairperson of the fundraising committee Felix Chome said last week the project is progressing and is now at window level.

But Chome said he was worried that the project may stall if people of goodwill do not help.

“We are at the window level, yet we have already drained the resources. Our prayer is that well-wishers should not leave us alone,” he said.

The project is estimated to cost K15 million. This may change depending on the strength of the kwacha against major currencies Malawi uses to import construction materials.

The parish says those interested in contributing towards the project can deposit the money in the parish account Number 0121265810500, Standard Bank, Luchenza Branch.

Mwinganyama said the new house would reduce the costs he incurs every Sunday to conduct mass at Chingadzi Parish.
