Veteran golfer Harold Coombes on Wednesday beat a field of 36 golfers to win the Toyota Malawi Ball Pool hosted by Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC). Coombes counted out Dipak Gill after the two had tied on 22 points. Frank Mvalo finished on third with 20 points.
The former LGC and Zone VI player was all joy after the win.
“To say the truth, this is the first win for me this year. It has been a long time since I last won something. I am happy. I played great golf and was inspired by my playing partners. I thank Toyota Malawi for the ball pool,” said Coombes who has been playing golf for 17 years.
Toyota Malawi rewarded him with a K50 000 shopping voucher.
In the ladies category, Minor Mkandawire carried the day with 21 points.
Toyota Malawi sales manager for North and Centre, Newton Mlagha, expressed satisfaction with the turnout.
“To have 36 busy people taking part in mid-week golf is impressive and we thank the golfers for such a response. Through this tournament, we interact with golfers who are our major customers. We get feedback on our services and we also introduce new services to them,” said Mlagha.
He said through golf sponsorship they also thank their customers for buying their products and services.
