The High Court in Blantyre on Thursday granted an injunction stopping the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) from preventing 18 members of the party from attending a convention scheduled to take place this weekend.

Judge Dunstain Mwaungulu granted the injunction to Roseby Dinala and 17 others from the Southern Region.

The 18, from Blantyre South District of the party, sought the injunction after they noticed that they were excluded from the list of delegates to the long-awaited convention where, among other business, the delegates would discuss reduction of presidential aspirants.

The 18 argued that nine of them still held party positions but were excluded.

As it is, the 18 are allowed to attend the convention to take place at Natural Resources College in Lilongwe, unless the party challenges the injunction and have it discharged.

But the convention is scheduled to start this morning.
