At least 350 villages in Chiradzulu and Thyolo districts are set to benefit from a two-year Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) project funded by Development Aid from People to People (Dapp).

Dapp projects manager Steve Namwela said this on Monday when he introduced the project.

He said the project will among other things drill 40 new boreholes, rehabilitate 324 boreholes and 160 gravity-fed scheme water taps and promote open defecation free villages.

“The project will also construct 10 improved toilets and two urinal blocks in 10 primary school as well as provide hand washing facilities,’’ said Namwela.

He also said his organisation will conduct various awareness activities to promote behaviour change on sanitation among the people.

Residents of Senior Chief Kadewere, Senior Chief Mpama and Traditional Authority (T/A) Ntchema in Chiradzulu, and T/A Changata, Bvumbwe and Nsabwe of Thyolo will benefit from the project.

Chiradzulu acting director of planning and development Morson Magombo hailed Dapp for the project, saying it will go a long way in improving sanitation in the district.

Magombo advised Dapp to properly coordinate with the Council for the project to bear the desired fruits.
