DD Sunshine set Oct 20 deadline for SA trip

DD Sunshine have given themselves up to October 20 2013 to source K650 000 funding shortfall for its trip to South Africa. The Lilongwe women football side is itching for international strength-testing matches in Pretoria from November 2 2013.

But three weeks after the hosts Juice Burn Ladies’ officials Aluna Phiri and Ernest Bennett sent an invitation, DD Sunshine director David Dube yesterday said he had only raised 50 percent of the trip’s total budget of K1 250 000 for bus fares for 25-member squad.

“We have given ourselves up to October 20. Our hosts expect us to leave for South Africa on October 29 and it is our obligation to honour the invitation; otherwise, next time they will not invite us. They will not trust us. This is a wonderful opportunity which could open the door for Malawi women football,” Dube explained.

To ensure transparency and accountability, well-wishers may deposit the money through DD Sunshine’s auditors D&M Associates, National Bank of Malawi, Lilongwe Service Centre, Account number 304492.

“We are asking your organisation to help with any number of tickets that you can afford. Each ticket costs K25 000 one way,” Dube wrote to potential sponsors last week.
