Europe-based Malawian fashion designer Mabel Khonje is set to splash about K120 million during her private party slated for Bingu International Convention Centre (Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) tomorrow.
In an interview, she said the party, which will be hosted under the masquerade theme, will include a three course dinner, violin and piano showcases before escalating into the main event.

“I have been hosting the parties annually for over five years now. The aim is to celebrate together with family, friends and industry associates who have contributed to the professional success that I have enjoyed and the growth of the brand,” said Khonje.
The former Miss Malawi second princess said her choice of the masquerade theme was deliberate as the event is designed to bring out a unique vibe that will live a lasting impression on the patrons.
“These parties have been going on for years now and we are trying to run away from monotony. The aim is to create an experience and environment that will not only bring excitement, but also set a new bar on how such events are executed,” said Khonje.
She said the organisers will provide the masks to all the 200 guests that have been invited to the event.
Khonje is the brains behind an international lingerie fashion line Boudoir by Doll Mabel whose accessories are available in Germany, her base Holland, Kenya and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Last year, her brand won the Corporate and Business Professional Most Promising Business Icon Award at the Consumer Choice Awards.
In 2021, she set a new standard when she held the first-ever international lingerie fashion show in the country at Bicc in Lilongwe, which attracted excitement among fashion and fun enthusiasts.
Commenting on the upcoming party, one of her Facebook followers Tawina Kapanda said it was encouraging to see that Khonje is building on the momentum from her previous events such as the lingerie fashion show.
“The notion that we are a conservative nation hinders progress in many ways. We can’t remain caged like this forever. They need to be trendsetters such as Khonje to break barriers. The entertainment space needs to grow,” she said.
