Some legislators from Kasungu, Ntchisi and Dowa districts have awarded 52 Dowa Secondary School students selected to public universities with various prizes.

The school came top in Central East Education Division during the recently released 2021 university selection.

The students walked away with smartphones, simcards, school bags, and K15 000 cash each while four best teachers at the school went away with K100 000 cash each. The rest of the teachers received K50 000 each for their achievement.

Speaking on Tuesday during the prize presentation ceremony, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda, who is also Dowa East legislator (Malawi Congress Party-MCP), commended the students for their outstanding performance.

He assured the under privileged students that government was committed to provide them with loans.

On his part, Dowa Central Constituency legislator  Darlington Harawa (MCP) said he organised the event to motivate the students to continue working hard.

The school’s head teacher Ronex Banda thanked the parliamentarians for the prizes.

“We have always told students that hard work pays off. This event will inspire other students to work hard,” he said.

Bridget Moyo, who has been selected to Malawi University of Science and Technology, said the prizes will motivate her to work hard.

She encouraged girls to work hard to achieve their goals.
