Visiting US accapella gospel group Durant says it is excited with their visit to Malawi and has since promised a night of fun.

“We are all excited to be in Africa for the first time and Malawi in particular, our mission to spread the gospel while raising funds for charity. Our music is generally from the Scriptures, we are therefore promising nothing but the best of night,” said the group’s leader Mellissa Lancaster.

While they have not sampled Malawi music not even of Joyful souls which whom they will share the stage, Durant is unfazed with the fact that their kind of music is new in Malawi.

Said Lancaster: “We are excited to bring this kind of music to Malawi and you know human voice is really good. Nothing beats it, not even the sound. So we urge people to come in large numbers and enjoy the power of the voice.”

The group started about 10 years ago as a college group.

Under the umbrella of Acappella Ministries, the group has four albums.

Apart from Sunday’s show at the BICC, the group is also expected to tour some districts where they will sing for the people.

Durant is fundraising for Teethesavers International, a Christian humanitarian organisation dedicated to impacting by ministering to the world’s most impoverished children in Africa and South America.

Their primary purpose is to teach children and educators simple, inexpensive dental techniques in order to prevent future infections of their bodies.

All proceeds from the show will go towards the local office’s quest to deal with dental problems.
