E’Face in Hollywood awards

Aemo E’face’s latest album has earned him a coveted nomination for US music honours.

The Blantyre-born pop star (born Amos Mazinyane) confirmed in an interview from his Johannesburg base in South Africa that Close was in the run for the Best Pop Artist shield in the Hollywood Artist Music Awards.

“After my album Close was reproduced by Serratus [formerly Restraint Records], who are based in the UK and Mexico, the executive producer Daniel Kain aka Dagger Kain submitted it for consideration in the Hollywood Artist Music Awards,” said E’face.

A result of five months of hard work and networking, Close was initially produced by Baseline Sonye in 2011. However, it was redone after E’face signed a collaborative deal with Kain in October 2012. The label is charged to market the release worldwide.

“This is the beginning of Aemo E’face world dominance,” Daniel Kain posted on Twitter last week.

The transatlantic awards boast red-carpet events, including stage performances. The winners stand a chance to get their names recorded in US most popular film culture as well as vying for Grammy Awards.

The nod comes prior to a tour with Hollywood rookie Orisha Pelzer, who is in Jamaica promoting Embrace It, a new single featuring Sizzla. She will be in South Africa to record a joint album with E’face.

The project was scheduled for early this year, but was postponed after both of them changed management labels.

Their ties have reportedly landed E’face a chance to collaborate with international dancehall ace Beenie Man.

E’face said: “Because of strong relations with Orisha, she introduced me to Beenie Man’s Management. We have a deal set in place for a collabo which is being produced by Sheldon, the Jamaican icon who also produced Embrace It.

He said Close, which contains pop hits Just Wanna Make It, House Down and Bum Bum as well as love remixes You Got Me and Second to Breathe, will be followed by the summer release of a new album featuring Orisha Sound. She is expected in South Africa in August for the studio work.

While US residents can vote their favourite Hollywood nominees via SMS codes, Malawians and the rest of the continent are advised to follow @aemoeface on Twitter for links on how to poll for E’face.

The judging panel will give 50 percent to the winner as the remaining score will emanate from the fans. n
