Ecobank donates K5.1m towards Blantyre Police CCTV cameras installation project

Ecobank Malawi Limited has donated K5.1 million towards the Blantyre Police Station closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installation project that will enhance security in the city’s central business district.

Speaking on Wednesday in Blantyre during presentation of the cheque, Ecobank Malawi chief financial officer Fabiano Makolija said as a responsible corporate citizen, they felt duty-bound to assist in the implementation of the project.

“We are pleased to support the Blantyre Police Station project of installing CCTV cameras within Blantyre Central Business District.

“These funds will go towards purchasing laptops and monitoring screens that will be used at the Blantyre Police monitoring control centre. We believe that this donation will go a long way in enhancing the security of Blantyre City.”

Malawi Police Service Commissioner of Police for South West Region Richard Luhanga thanked Ecobank Malawi for the timely donation and support.

He said: “The supportwill go a long way in assisting the fulfillment of our vision of creating a safe and secure Blantyre city.

“Technology is a true game- changer to modern policing. We believe that this project will enable us to curb crime in the city as this technology will help us easily monitor everything that is taking place and guide in our policing strategy.”
