Ekwendeni CCAP Hospital has commended its K39 million HIV and Aids Programme (Ehap) which is being implemented in Mzimba, saying it has registered tremendous impact in promoting social protection of vulnerable children.

Speaking last week at a stakeholders meeting in Mzimba, Ehap coordinator Esther Lupafya said the project supports the education and nutrition of children, constructs houses for vulnerable families, establishes community-based childcare centres (CBCC) and empowers women through self-help activities.

“Our project looks at child protection by supporting their education and behavioural change activities. We have community resource centres for youths to do various trainings and activities so as to keep them busy,” said Lupafya.

She also hailed the project for supporting the education of at least 1 000 students, saying some of them are in various secondary schools while others are in University of Malawi colleges and other tertiary institutions.

“By providing them with school fees, it means that we are helping them to pursue studies without difficulties,” said Lupafya.

The hospital is implementing the project in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development through Presbyterian World Service and Development.
