In response to the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy, which hit the country a few weeks ago, Eastern Produce Malawi (EPM) donated firewood to affected victims in Thyolo, Mulanje and Blantyre districts.

According to EPM’s corporate affairs manager, Rabson Kachilele, the company responded quickly and stands ready to support the affected communities whenever possible.

“In liaison with the district councils and local community leaders, we have provided over 80 tons of firewood to victims’ rescue centers to facilitate the preparation of meals and also to keep the survivors warm in the centers.

“We provided assistance to the Mulanje District Disaster Management Office by supplying maize flour for distribution to affected households. Additionally, we facilitated the assessment of the impact of Cyclone Freddy and the distribution of relief items by providing fuel and transportation to access the hard-to-reach areas that were heavily damaged after the cyclone,” he said.

Mulanje District Commissioner, David Kayiwonanga Gondwe, expressed his gratitude towards EPM for their swift response to the disaster.

He said: “We acknowledged that EPM is the first private company to provide assistance with firewood, transportation, and maize flour.”
