Escom vandalism case verdict today
The Neno Second Grade Magistrate Court is today expected to deliver judgement in a case of vandalising of Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) property.
Sungani Chapweteka, from Munlo Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapeni in Blantyre, is accused of vandalising 30 angle irons between Nkula and Chingeni which provides power supply to Balaka, Dedza, Liwonde, Ntcheu, Ntaja and Nselema in Machinga, Mangochi and parts of Lilongwe.
On Monday, the State paraded the last witness, 32-year-old Wonderfold Bernard who is one of the three that have already been convicted for receiving stolen Escom property.
He told the court that he knows the suspect as he had bought the angle irons from him.
Bernard said he only realised he had bought stolen property after police went to his house to arrest him. n
