FAM launches Scorchers’ Wafcon kit design contest
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has introduced the Scorchers’ 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) kit design competition with the eventual winner set to receive K1 million prize.
FAM marketing manager Maya Kafwamba yesterday said the competition aims to involve Malawians in the women’s national team’s journey to their historic Wafcon finals scheduled for March 17 to April 3 this year in Morocco.
“We want to engage the community in the team’s journey to Wafcon. At the same time, we want to build the public’s sense of ownership and pride for the team,” he said.

The Scorchers qualified for the Wafcon finals after beating Angola 2-0 in the second leg of the final qualifier. The first leg away ended goalless.
Kafwamba said the competition is open to all Malawians aged between 18 and 35 years and the winning candidate will be required to sign a declaration form to transfer all copyrights and intellectual property rights in the designs to FAM.
He said the competition offers creative designers an opportunity to be part of the team’s historical journey at the continental showpiece.
Kafwamba said the kit design attributes include creativity and originality, demonstration of Malawi culture understanding and ability to incorporate the team’s colours of black, red and green.
“The jersey must be designed specifically for women’s football, reflecting strength, empowerment and comfort. Designs should not be unisex or men’s templates. Entries should be submitted to marketing@fam.mw by January 10,” he said.
Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga said FAM’s initiative is a welcome idea as it will help to promote women’s football and create awareness about the team’s preparations ahead of the Wafcon finals.
