Fifa boss consoles Vice-President family

 Fifa president Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino yesterday consoled Mary Chilima, widow to departed Vice-President Saulos Chilima who died in a military plane crash alongside eight others in Mzimba on Monday.

The world football governing body president, who arrived in the country on Tuesday, visited the official residence of the Vice-President in Area 12, Lilongwe yesterday after earlier meeting President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace.

He was accompanied by, among others, Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire and Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya.

Infantino presents a gift to Mary Chilima

Infantino met Mary Chilima knelt and delivered his condolence message.

Thereafter, he went back to take his seat as Haiya came in to explain to the widow the purpose of the Fifa president’s visit.

Infantino did not speak to the media, but Haiya

 to appreciate Fifa-sponsored projects and he was supposed to have a meeting with the Vice-President yesterday.said he was in the country

Said Haiya to Mary Chilima: “As we know that he was scheduled to meet the Vice-President, he had a present which he thinks that he does not have to return home with. He will now

 present that to you madam.”

Then Infantino presented a personalised Fifa-branded football jersey with Chilima’s initials SKC inscribed on the back.

His last engagement before leaving for Zambia was a meeting with the FAM executive committee.
