Afro-soul artist Find Codi on Friday fuelled the fun at HS Winehouse in Namiwawa, Blantyre with her  touching tribute to legendary US singer Tina Turner.

The Lilongwe-based musician was in Blantyre courtesy of CapeStars liquor spirits being produced in partnership with Ethanol Company Limited of Malawi (EthCo).

Find Codi’s performance started at 7pm and by that time people had already converged for a thrill.

When HS Winehouse director Wilkins Mijiga called Find Codi to the stage, patrons welcomed her with a loud applause.

She said huskily: “I am really happy to be here. It has been a while since I last performed in Blantyre. It is a sweet homecoming for me.”

Find Codi singing Simply the Best

Find Codi quickly got on to the music business. As per her trademark, she started with cover songs of a number of artists such as Phil Collins’ Another Day in Paradise, De Mthuda’s Emulanjeni, Bill Withers Lean On Me, and PJ Power’s Jabulane, among others.

Throughout her set, her vocal projection and endurance were a marvel.

After a long list of international covers, Find Codi switched to two of her own songs Dziwa Nyimbo and Mwezi Uwale.

But the highlight of the night was a tribute she wanted to pay to US pop star Tina Turner, who died two weeks ago. Find Codi dished out two of Turner’s popular songs What’s Love Got To Do with This and Simply the Best.

The manner in which she replicated Turners vocals was stunning and gave the patrons goose bumps.

“For a moment, one would have thought the real Tina Turner was here,” said one patron as he swayed  to the tune from left to right.

In an interview after the show, Find Codi told The Nation that the American  pop star had a huge influence on her career.

“I grew up listening to her records off my father’s music collection and watching Tina Turner’s shows on television,” she said.

The artist said she was impressed with the turn up at the show.

On Sartuday evening, Find Codi crossed the Mudi River to Sunnyside for another spirited perfomance at Sky Lounge courtesy of CapeStars.
