Flames in Mali for Burkina match
The bulk of Malawi National Football Team two players on Saturday arrived in Bamako, Mali ahead of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier against Burkina Faso tomorrow.
Chawanangwa Kaonga and Innocent Nyasulu were the last to arrive on Sunday.
According to a statement from Football Association of Mallawi (FAM),, the team left on Friday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
They had A stopover in Ethiopia where they spent a night before proceeding to Bamako.
The team in Mali is accommodated at Radisson Collection Hotel.
FAM executive member Patrick Kapanga, who is the leader of delegation, in an interview said he encouraged the players not to get distracted with the 3-2 loss to Burundi at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
He said: “First of all, we thank God for the travelling mercies. We arrived safely in Bamako after travelling from Addis Ababa. I had a chat with coach Patrick Mabedi and he told me that all the players are okay and ready for the Tuesday assignment against Burkina Faso.
Flames coach Patrick Mabedi also downplayed the loss to Burundi, saying there is still a chance to do well.
“It is the expectation of every Malawian that the players should give in their best against Burkina Faso to restore the lost glory to disappointed Malawian following the Tuesday loss to Burundi at home.”
Burundi lead the group after beating Malawi 3-2 Senegal and Burkina Faso settled for a goalless draw.
Burundi face Senegal today at Bingu National Stadium because none of their stadium met Confederation of African Football requirements to hots matches.
