Flames rated joint worst performers at Cosafa
The Flames were joint worst performers at the 2025 Cosafa Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa, alongside E-swatini and Zambia, statistics have shown.
The Malawi National Football Team, E-swatini’s Sihlangu and Zambia’s Chipolopolo bowed out of the tournament with a point each, after failing to register wins.
The Flames were also the only team that failed to score at the regional showpiece which ended yesterday when Angola’s Palancas Negras beat hosts Bafana Bafana 3-0 in the final.

Malawi lost to Lesotho’s Likuena and Angola by 1-0 margins and drew 0-0 against Namibia’s Brave Warriors.
Mauritius was the other team that failed to win at the 14-team tournament, but to their credit, they did not lose either, having drawn all their three Group A matches.
Namibia also bowed out without tasting defeat.
But speaking during a press conference in Blantyre on Friday, Flames coach Kallisto Pasuwa said despite failing to register a win and finding the back of the net, his charges did well.
He said his focus is to build a team that can qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Said Pasuwa: “We went there to compete, it is just unfortunate that we didn’t win a game or even score a goal.
“But remember, we said we are building a team [and] I can now easily say that I have players who can be part of the squad.”
He also said there were some coaches at the tournament, who were impressed with the team’s performance and some thought Malawi had some Europe-based players.
