Flames task force targets K30m from golf tourney
The Flames resource mobilisation task force says it is targeting K30 million from the fundraising corporate golf tournament to be held at Lilongwe Golf Club on October 2.
Vice-President Saulos Chilima, an ardent golfer, will be the guest of honour at the event which is part of fundraising initiatives targeting to raise K450 million for the Flames’ preparations and participation at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon in January.
Sponsorship fee for a team of two has been pegged at K300 000 and the team to play alongside the Vice-President will be chosen from the highest bidder.
The task force’s chairperson Jabbar Alide, who is also FAM vice-president and High Court of Malawi judge, on Wednesday said: “We are targeting a minimum of K30 million.”
On Sunday, the Vice-President’s spokesperson Pilirani Phiri said Chilima was excited to be part of the initiative.
“It is a noble cause and Dr. Chilima is looking forward to help fundraise for the team through this golf tournament,” he said.
The task force has also extended an invitation to President Lazarus Chakwera to grace Kuipatsa Moto Flames VVIP Dinner in Lilongwe on October 29.
Other initiatives include betting and a corporate social football tournament.
Alide added that they will soon launch crowd-funding initiatives through TNM plc and Airtel Malawi plc, whom they are still in discussion with.
He said: “We will also open solicitations of donations through the mainstream and social media where the general citizenry in or outside Malawi will have the opportunity to donate to the Flames whatever amount they can afford.”
Alide said for the team to adequately prepare for the Afcon finals, it needs about K1.493 billion.
