Four people belonging to Abraham Church in Mulanje are feared dead after a boat they were sailing in capsized on Kapesi River on Sunday afternoon.

The four were among 10 people who, after prayers in Kapesi Village, were going to cheer a sick member of the church.

Said Southern Region Police spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa: “The captain, Mavuto Nasola (20) lost control of the boat. The rescuers managed to rescue six people. A four-year-old was taken to Mulanje District Hospital for treatment.”

Gondwa said the search for the four is still going on.

“We are still searching for the four and we are also investigating the possible cause of the accident,” he said.

Gondwa identified missing persons as Yanjanani Dyton, Stafford Milonde, Gloria and five-year-old Francis Yombwe.
