Dedza Dynamos forward Clement Nyondo, Silver Strikers midfielder Chimwemwe Idana, FCB Nyasa Bullets midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu and Mighty Wakawaka Tigers goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu will battle it out for the most outstanding player’s accolade.

Mwaungulu has eight goals, nine assists and four man of the match awards in 26 matches in the just ended season while Idana has eight goals, , eight assists and seven man of the match awards in 23 appearances.

Nyondo, who is also top scorer with 16 goals, including three from penalties, won two man of the match awards from 27 appearances.

The nominees: Idana (L) Nyondo (2ndL), Mwaungulu (R ) and Nyasulu

Nyasulu has 13 clean sheets from 28 matches and five penalty saves which earned him seven man of the match accolades.

In a statement, Sulom said the four were nominated by a study group comprising TNM Super League teams captains, coaches and fixtures committee members, but the winner will be determined through voting via a TNM USSD code 451.

The statement reads in part: “Fans will have the opportunity to cast as many votes as they would like for a player to win the award.

“TNM airtime prizes will be given to 10 top fans with the most SMS hits. Each SMS vote costs K100. Voting will open today and close on January 19 2024.”

Soccer analyst Charles Nyirenda said he expects stiff competition among the four nominees.

He said: “You see, all these four players were outstanding in the just-ended season. Look how Mwaungulu helped Bullets to retain the league title.

“He had a fantastic season which he capped with goals in matches against Karonga United and Silver. Those goals ultimately decided the title.

“Idana needs no introduction. He is the man behind Silver’s attacking machinery. He has been at his pick this season and is the reason why the league title chase went to the wire.

“Nyasulu showed us how good goalkeeping should be. Saving five penalties and winning seven man of the match awards is not a joke.

“As for Nyondo, well he is already the Golden Boot winner with 16 goals and now he is chasing the Player of the Season Award.”

Bullets defender Gomezgani Chirwa won the award last season.

Sulom media officer Collins Nsunza said nominees for best defender, best midfielder and best goalkeeper will be released on Monday.
