Free entry to Scorchers’ matches against Lesotho

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says soccer lovers will watch for free two international friendly matches between the Scorchers and Lesotho tomorrow and Sunday at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

The games are scheduled to kick-off at 3pm on both days.

The last time the Scorchers played at home was in September 2023 when they thrashed Seychelles by 17-0 margin in two international friendlies at the same venue.

FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka yesterday said they have done this to ensure that as many Malawians as possible get into the stadium to cheer the Scorchers and enjoy the entertainment that the women’s game brings.

“It is true the matches will be free of charge. We want more support for the team as they play their first matches in Malawi in over two years.  We would like them to rebond with their team,” he said.

“This will also be an opportunity for fans to interact with our new sponsors National Bank of Malawi [NBM], who are committed to supporting the Scorchers and take them to greater heights.”

NBM product development and strategy manager Ibrahim Chapeyama, whose bank has injected K140 million into the Scorchers, yesterday said they expect best results.

“These two days will be filled with fun. We urge the Scorchers to win the games so as to make football lovers happy. As sponsors, we are always there for them,” he said.

Last week, Scorchers’ coach Lovemore Fazili called a 27-player squad, including 14 new faces, into camp.

The Scorchers are expected to use the friendly matches as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers’ second-round clash against Angola in October.
