Future in Our Hands (FIOH) last Wednesday gave six computers valued at K500 000 to Chichiri Prison’s Correctional Centre in Blantyre to help in uplifting the education standards of inmates.
FIOH is a local non-governmental organisation run by a group of Malawian volunteers and is part of a larger network of FIOH groups around the world.

The group’s projects coordinator, Janet Kasambala, said since the organisation started in 2007, it has supported prison education at Chichiri Prison.
“FIOH Malawi supports female and male inmates with their education by providing basic teaching and learning materials,” she said.
Chichiri Prison station officer Evans Chisi hailed FIOH for the donation, saying it will go a long way in imparting computer skills to the inmates.
The prison’s education coordinator Happiness Kaliza said it will now be easy to print education materials at the prison.
The organisation, according to Kasambala, is also supported by FIVH Tonsberg.
