Gaba says still someway before recovery
South Africa-based Malawian football star Frank Gabadinho Mhango says he still has some way before fully recovering from an achilles injury.
The South Africa Premier Soccer League has announced that the 2026/27 season will kick off on August 1, but in an interview yesterday, the Malawi National Football Team captain said he will still be nursing his injury by then.

Mhango, who is in the country on holiday, said: “I still have some way to go because I only had my delayed surgery three weeks ago.
“I will be returning to South Africa shortly to step up my rehabilitation, but I remain positive.”
The Richards Bay forward could also not say whether he would have fully recovered by the time the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers start in September.
“Not sure about that, I will have to wait and see how the recovery process goes,” said the Flames hitman.
Mhango sustained the injury last November during a Betway Premiership match between his club and his former team AmaZulu FC.
South Africn online publication kickoff.com in March this year quoted Mhango as having said it is frustrating to be out of action for such a long period.
“But it is part of the game. I am determined to bounce back stronger. For now, my focus is on the recovery process,” he said.
The 33-year-old striker has another season to go on his contract with the Natal Rich Boyz.
The club’s coach Ronnie Gabriel was recently quoted by idiskitimes.co.za as saying Mhango’s injury is a significant blow to the club.
