Ghana also date Liberia

In an interesting development, Flames 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final qualification round opponents Ghana will also face Liberia just a week after the latter host the Flames.

The Flames will face Liberia’s Lone Star on September 4 in an international friendly match in Monrovia as part of their preparations for the first leg showdown against Ghana scheduled for September 9 in Accra.

But apparently it has also emerged that the Lone Star will host the Ghanains on September 11 in Monrovia to mark Liberia’s independence anniversary.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi had spoken of the importance of the Liberia friendly, with the official FA site saying “the match will help the Black Stars prepare for their return Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi in Blantyre in October.”

However, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu played down suggestions that the Ghanains could learn tips on Malawi from Liberia ahead of the second leg.

“Ghana’s friendly match against Liberia will be played after we have already faced them in the first leg. So, we should not really read much into that game.

“Of course, it will help them [Ghana] tune-up for the second leg, but not necessarily getting tips on the Flames,” said Nyamilandu.
