There was a goal deluge in yesterday’s TNM Super League matches in which a total of 19 goals were scored.

At Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, Silver Strikers poor run continued when they suffered a second successive defeat, going down 2-3 to Blue Eagles. It was a second successive loss for the Bankers at home within a week.

Last Saturday, the Bankers lost 0-2 to Civo United.

Micium Mhone put Eagles ahead 14 minutes into the game from the penalty spot after Lucky Malata had fouled Junior Malidadi. Eagles held on to the slender lead going into the second-half.

Peter Wadabwa levelled the scores eight minutes after resumption following a move of utter beauty that involved Green Harawa and Ndaziona Chatsalira, who laid a pass for Wadabwa to score past an out-of-position Eagles’ goal-tender John Soko.

The visitors, who were attacking full throttle, reclaimed the lead through Junior Malidadi in the 59th minute.

But Silver again retaliated through Green Harawa, who scored from the penalty spot after an Eagles defender had handled the ball in the box.

Eagles were unperturbed with the equaliser and went on applying pressure and deservedly struck the winner through Elia Kabingu in the 78th minute.

Silver never recovered and the margin could have been bigger had John Banda and Malidadi scored from chances created for them late in the game.

“We needlessly lost possession for most of the game. We also failed to make use of the chances we had. It is a painful loss of course, more especially we were playing at home,” said Silver coach Stein Chirwa after the match.

His counterpart Deklerk Msakakuwona was excited  at the victory, saying: “We controlled the whole game and deserved to win. We created the most chances and had more possession. I give credit to the players,” said Msakakuwona, whose side is still on third position with 23 points from 12 games.

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers breathed a sigh of relief when they left it late to collect full points against Airborne Rangers at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo where Mapopa Kaunda, who is fast turning into their saviour, struck the lone goal with two minutes to full time.

Following the win, the Nomads have reduced the gap with their rivals and leaders Big Bullets to just two points.

The win also comes as a solace to the Nomads faithful after two consecutive losses to Silver (0-2) and Bullets (1-2).

Wanderers are still on second position with 24 points from 12 games.

At Mzuzu Stadium, Moyale Barracks roared back to form with a 4-0 comprehensive demolition of Azam Tigers.

Dan Katunga scored twice for Moyale in the opening nine minutes before Lloyd Njaliwa made it 3-0 in the 48th minute. Khuda Muyawa closed the score sheet in the 80th minute.

In Dedza, Civo’s revival continued when they beat Dedza Young Soccer Stars 3-1. It was Civo’s second successive win and they now have jumped two steps up to 12th from 14th position with nine points from 10 games. In Dwangwa, Mafco gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 against Red Lions. n
