Govt constructs houses for people with albinism

M’Mbelwa District Council has handed over two houses for people with albinism in the district.

Speaking on Monday during the handover, the council’s rural housing officer Suzgo Msukwa said they constructed the houses to enhance the safety of people with albinism.

He said government through the Ministry of Lands in collaboration with the Department of Disability and Elderly Affairs embarked on the project in 2021.

“The houses are fixed with steel doors, burglar bar windows and bathrooms and kitchen are inside the houses. The housesalso have fences around them to enhance security,” said Msukwa.

One of the beneficiaries, Sandwell Gondwe of Traditional Authority Khosolo said he was grateful to government for the initiative which will protect people with albinism in the district.

“Government has proved that it has the welfare of its people at heart. I appeal to families and community members to love and protect people with albinism,” he said.

Mzimba South East legislator Ackson Kalaile Banda (People’s Party) commended government for the initiative and called on Malawians to protect people with albinism.

M’Mbelwa District Council was allocated K40 million towards the construction of three houses in Malivenji in Mzimba North East, Mapanjira in Mzimba South and Msese in Mzimba South East.
