 Grudge battle

All roads lead to Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre this afternoon as FCB Nyasa  Bullets and Silver Strikers renew their fierce rivalry in the 2025 TNM Super League second round blockbuster.

The fixture promises fireworks, with both sides entering the clash carrying title ambitions on their shoulders.

Bullets, who are currently perched at the summit of the league table with 43 points, are aiming to stretch their lead while defending champions Silver on third position at 39 points, are eager to narrow the gap and also avenge painful defeats suffered earlier this season.

The People’s Team opened their campaign with a narrow but vital 1-0 win over the Bankers in the season opener before once again frustrating their rivals in the Airtel Top 8 final.

Today, the two giants meet in what many have dubbed “the battle of the season.”

Coach Peter Mponda has rallied his charges, insisting his team is in a “good space” both physically and mentally.

“We are in a good space. The guys are feeling it. They have worked so hard to get where we are. We cannot give it up so easily,” he said.

While acknowledging Silver’s pedigree as reigning champions and their CAF Champions League experience, Mponda remained bullish that his side would rise to the occasion.

“They are a very good team. They are playing in the CAF Champions League, and that experience will help them. They will give us a good game. But at the end of the game, we will carry the day.”

For Bullets, the stakes are high. Victory would not only cement their position at the top but also extend their dominance over second-placed rivals Mighty Wanderers, who have 39 points and face Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium this afternoon.

On the other hand, Silver head coach Peter Mgangira struck a respectful but determined tone.

“We always respect the opposition. Bullets is one of the best teams in Malawi and they are coached by one of the best coaches in Malawi,” he said.

But he was quick to add that his men are primed for the battle.

He said: “These are big games whereby characters always win games. You don’t get so many chances in such matches, so when they come, you must take them. The boys are ready for that.”

The Bankers will be banking on efficiency in front of goal—an area that has cost them dearly in previous encounters against Bullets.

With revenge and pride at stake, Silver’s attacking unit will need to be ruthless if they are to upset the log leaders.

Bullets’ attacking flair and midfield depth will be tested against Silver’s discipline at the back.
