Gwamba: Live music feels so real

Musicians’ Union of Malawi Awards 2013 best hip hop artist, Gwamba has formed his own band. The band called, Anthu Athu, consists of his old friends in the music business.

“I have been working with these people for a long time and now I have seen it necessary that I assemble a band,” said Gwamba.

The band is expected to have its maiden performance at Lilongwe Golf Club on September 21.

The artist launches his album Kudutsa Pakhoma where he will share moment with his partner Nesness as he also launches Nthawi Yakwana.

The artist said that he has decided to launch his own band because drummer Hope C (Hope Chiusiwa), Pirlo (Griffin Kadwa) who plays bass guitar and George Nkosi on the lead guitar while BFB (Jeremy Matewere) plays the keyboard.

“The reason I came up with a band is because live music feels so real. It distinguishes between performers and non performers. That’s where real art can be shown,” said Gwamba.

The musician’s manager Edward Kankhomba said they have decided to form a band for Gwamba in preparation for the double launch.

“We are adding more value to the artists. In fact, Nesnes is also assembling his own band and it will be ready in a few weeks time,” said Kankhomba.
