Habitat constructs houses for people with disabilities
Habitat for Humanity Malawi has constructed 30 houses worth K90 million for people with disabilities in Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima District.
Speaking on Saturday during the handover, Deputy Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma said the houses will improve the lives of people with disabilities.
“They are more than 8 000 people with disabilities in Salima who are in need of similar support. Therefore, we appeal to other well-wishers to emulate the gesture set by Habitat,” she said.

Nkusa Nkhoma advised beneficiaries to take care of the houses.
Habitat for Humanity national director Anock Kapira said they constructed the houses with special features to ease mobility challenges for persons with different disabilities.
“We involved Malawi Council for the Handicapped (Macoha) and Salima District Council when identifying beneficiaries,” he said.
A beneficiary Aido Samson commended Habitat for Humanity for the house.
He said: “The houses will offer us security.
“Again, we suffered during the rainy season as our houses were leaking.”
Among the beneficiaries are persons albinism who have recently been facing attacks and abductions.
On their part, Macoha supported each beneficiary with two goats to support their livelihoods.
