Versatile forward Green Harawa and striker Chawanangwa Kawonga are set to rejoin Silver Strikers after the end of their stay at Mozambican top league outfits Ferroviaro de Nampula and Chibuto FC, respectively.

Confirming the moves yesterday, Silver general secretary Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda said the duo was expected to start training with the Area 47-based outfit yesterday.

He said: “We held discussions with both and they have, in principle, agreed to be part of us again.”

However, both are yet to sign contracts, which he claimed are being drafted.

Silver are hoping for the Fisd Challenge Cup as they face Kamuzu Barracks this weekend and are also favourites for the Super League title and Chakaka-Nyirenda hopes that the two will be instrumental in the remaining matches in both competitions.

“The two players are experienced and can help us at this stage of the season. We are hoping to register them with Football Association of Malawi by this week. If this is achieved, then they might feature in the Fisd Cup semis,” he said.

In an interview yesterday, Kawonga confirmed agreeing to join the Bankers hoping they will offer him a platform to find another foreign club.

“I still harbour dreams of playing for a top club abroad. This was difficult in Mozambique because the league is only monitored by Portuguese-based teams,” he said.

Kawonga was also optimistic of helping Silver secure the Super League title and the Fisd Cup, saying: “Silver fans are used to winning trophies. I believe that I can help the team win the remaining silverware.”

The striker joined the Mozambican club in 2014 while Harawa joined Ferroviaro de Nampula earlier this year. The latter could not be reached for comment. n
