Hit-and-run claims one in Mzimba

An unidentified motorist killed a pedestrian in a hit- and-run accident that occurred around Chikangawa Police junction in Mzimba District.

Northern Region Police spokeperson Maurice Chapola on Sunday identified the deacesed as Simeon Kalua, 24, of Simuwamba Kalua Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwamlowe in Rumphi District.

According to Chapola, the victim was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Friday night at Chikangawa Police junction killing him on the spot.

The driver did not stop the vehicle to check on the pedestrian who sustained severe head injuries.

The police have since called on people who might have any information about the whereabouts of the motorist involved in the accident to report to police.
