Hivos wants CSOs to unite to play their oversight roles
Hivos has emphasised the need for civil society organisations (CSOs) in Karonga District to collaborate and coordinate to advocate for social service delivery for the underprivileged.
Speaking on Thursday after monitoring projects under the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of Karonga Diocese, Hivos Connect, Defend, Act project officer Mwayi Sandram, expressed satisfaction with the social service interventions running in Karonga and Chitipa districts under Hivos’ support.
He said: “We came as part of monitoring exercise to appreciate what CCJP is doing and assess the impact which the project has brought in the two districts.

“We are impressed with what we have seen here, there is team work and unity through the capacity building which CCJP has done. If CSOs continue to closely work together in the advocacy work the way they are doing, we can do better.”
In an interview, Karonga District Civil Society Actors (CSAs) coalition chairperson Wandezo Chirwa said the project united CSAs from Karonga, Chitipa and Rumphi districts to work as a team to advocate for the rehabilitation of the Chiweta-Karonga section of the M1.
“This meaningful collaboration has also enhanced communication with the Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango who is now in constant touch to update us step by step on the progress of the Chiweta-Karonga Road,” he said.
CCJP is implementing a five-year Connect, Defend, Act project in Karonga and Chitipa districts under Hivos.
