Housing project for children with albinism excites chief
Group village head (GVH) Nsundu from Traditional Authority (T/A) Malanda in Nkhata Bay District has expressed excitement with government’s plan to construct a K43 million house for a family with two children with albinism.
He said this on Monday when Nkhata Bay District Council handed over the project to a contractor at Chikhumbi Village.
Said the chief: “We are excited to see the contractor on the ground to commence construction works, which will ensure maximum security to the children.
“I urge community members to render their support and I also advise the contractor to construct a secure house in tandem with standards set by government.”
Julius Longwe, the father of the two children, said the house will be a relief to his family which he said lives in constant fear of possible attacks from assailants.
Nkhata Bay rural housing desk officer Owen Chikoti said through the Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development, beneficiary households were identified. The beneficiaries were those with children with albinism from different districts, including five identified in Nkhata bay.
“This is the second house to be constructed in the district as the first one was constructed in T/A Kabunduli.”
Selemunthu Construction Company managing director Gospel Selemani promised to do quality work.
