How to cultivate positive thoughts

We may not really know how to be happy when things are bad. We may not know how to forget something that at the thought of it dampens our mood. From last week, STELLA FOWEWE continues to give us some insight.

1. Realise that negative thoughts hurt therefore don’t be tricked by it. Replace every negative thought with positive thought; never give negative thought breeding space in your mind.

2. Decide to live your day in happiness and don’t let negative thoughts steal your joy.

3. Surround yourself with positive people: When you’re stuck in a negative spiral, talk to people who can put things into right perspective and won’t feed your negative words.

4. Smile. It’s more difficult to think negatively when you are smiling. It helps to change your mood and relieve stress; you will also feel lighter because it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown.

5. Remember that no one is perfect and learn to move on in life. It’s easy to dwell on your mistakes. Remember failure can be a stepping stone to success, the only thing to do is to learn mistakes and move forward.

6. Accept yourself and be comfortable with who you are. You can’t be perfect but neither can anyone else. Celebrate your uniqueness.

7. Pray or meditate. Spiritual peace and calmness is among the most effective ways to overcome negative thoughts

8. Help someone. Don’t always be self centered, take the focus from you and do something nice for others.

9. Sing a cheerful song: When we sing, we show our feelings and this provides an amazing stress relief.

10. Be grateful: Being grateful in life help us appreciate what we already have.

Watch your thoughts, they become words.

Watch your words, they become actions.

Watch your actions, they become habits.

Watch your habits, they become your character.

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.
