Huawei Technologies joins Unesco talent cultivation

Huawei Technologies has joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) Global Alliance for Literacy (GAL) as part of the company’s lead up to the Mobile World Congress 2023.

The announcement was made at a Digital Talent Summit in Spain on Monday co-hosted by Huawei and the Institute for Lifelong Learning which serves as GAL secretariat.

Huawei Malawi  managing director Gu Mu said in a statement the move raises the profile of Huawei talent training programmes, including Seeds for the Future and ICT competitions observing that digital talent is a key driver in achieving digital transformation, solid economic growth and quality life.

He said: “Since 2008, Huawei has offered a wide and expanding range of talent programmes.Seeds for the Future programme,initiated in 2016, has trained 190 Malawian students with various academic backgrounds.

“Through the programme, Huawei has helped nurture more than 2.2 million digital talents in over 150 countries.

Institute for Lifelong Learning director David Atchoarena saidHuawei’s expertise in the area of innovation in learning will be a great asset to the Global Alliance for Literacy.

On his part, Huawei vice-president of corporate communications, Vicky Zhang, said as a major player in the technology sector, Huawei feels it has a responsibility to provide technology skills in all parts of the world.”

Since its launch in 2016, GAL has driven international discourse and guided the agenda for literacy provision globally for those who need it most. The alliance includes 30 countries committed to improving youth and adult literacy.
