Indian Cricket Club (ICC) has qualified for the TNM national tournament after beating Alendo Cricket Club in an all-Lilongwe affair on Sunday.

The ICC had a 202 score against 176, managing a deficit of 26 runs over Alendo.

TNM sponsorship manager Limbani Nsapato said cricket is viewed as a minority sport in the country and they want to change that misconception.

“Cricket is big out there and TNM’s long-term goal is to reach levels of neighbouring Zimbabwe and Zambia. For us to reach that stage we must build a strong foundation through such tournaments,” Nsapato said after the tournament.

The winning team’s captain, Praschant Kundev, thanked TNM for the sponsorship.

“It is a new chapter in cricket history. We had fun today and we witnessed great cricket,” said Kundev.

He said his team is now focused on beating winners from the South in the national finals next weekend.

Cricket Union of Malawi (MCU) president Vivek Ganesan also expressed gratitude to TNM.

“This sponsorship will revolutionise the sport, especially among indigenous Malawians. We are very thankful,” said Ganesan.
