Indian Rotarians take on maternal mortality

The Rotary International (RI) clubs of India and Malawi have singled out reduction of maternal mortality in the two countries as one of the areas of their service.

Rotary Club of Thane North (India) under the RI District 3140 and Rotary Club of Bwaila (Malawi), RI District 9210, undertook a joint project which saw Rotarians from India visiting Malawi recently.

“The project included a vocational training team from India which consisted of four Rotarians of Rotary Club of Thane North, including president of the club, Sharwari Deshpande.

The delegation visited the Bwaila Hospital Maternity Ward, Mitundu Community Hospital where ‘kits’ for conducting hygienic deliveries were donated. This was followed by a visit to the Kamuzu College of Nursing where presentations were made on the subject by the doctors,” said a statement from the RI office in Malawi.
