Inkosi Chindi of Mzimba fires aides for alleged involvement in politics
Inkosi Chindi of Mzimba District has fired eight of his aides for allegedly being involved in partisan politics.
The aids, who are village heads, held a press briefing on Thursday where they called upon Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to cancel primary elections in Mzimba Central Constituency and let aspiring candidates to contest as independents on September 16 General Election.

The primary elections were held on May 11 2025 and were married by violence.
Speaking at a press briefing held at his Euthini Headquarters on Thursday, Inkosi Chindi cautioned against dragging his chieftaincy into political matters.
He said MCP is free to conduct fresh primaries.
“The concerned village heads have been stripped of their positions as my aides for disgracing the chieftaincy. MCP is at liberty to hold primary elections if they so wish,” said Chindi.
The chief’s adviser Mlumuzana Mhlawa Soko urged MCP candidates Vitumbiko Mumba, who is Minister of Trade and Industry and presidential adviser Owen Kuseli Mkandawire to advise their followers to maintain discipline.
Two weeks ago, the High Court in Mzuzu granted Mumba an injunction stopping MCP from conducting primary elections in the constituency. However, on Friday, Mumba’s legal team vacated the injunction and sought to resolve the matter out of court.
Both Mumba and Mkandawire refused to comment when contacted on Thursday.
Limbani Jere, who spoke on behalf of the eight fired aids, said they will stand by what they said that MCP should not hold fresh primaries in the area.
