Integrated vaccination campaign on course in Dedza
Dedza District Hospital health promotion officer Mwayi Liabunya has expressed satisfaction with how the integrated vaccination campaign has started in the district.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency this week, Liabunya said looking at the number of people flocking to vaccination centres, he was optimistic the district would meet its vaccination targets.
“We are targeting children from nine months to 15 years and have seen people coming to get the vaccines in large numbers in all our health centres and vaccination sites,” he said.
Liabunya attributed the development to the sensitisation campaign the health office held in communities ahead of the exercise.
He, however, urged those that have not yet vaccinated their children to do so for them to be protected from typhoid, measles, polio and other diseases that may arise due to vitamin A deficiency.
Mikondo Health Centre senior health surveillance officer Steven Chikakuda said so far they have not met any resistance from communities because the local leaders were properly sensitised.
“We are also targeting those children in communities and schools through our mobile outreach teams and in two days, we have vaccinated over 2 000 children,” he said.
One of the community members from Traditional Authority Kachere, Emily Kafoteza said she decided to get her three children vaccinated after noting the importance of the exercise.
