Rotaract Club launches fund for childcare centre
Rotaract Club of Blantyre has launched an initiative dubbed the Children’s Dream Fund for Step Kids Awareness (Steka) Childcare Centre in Blantyre.
The club’s president Sandra Machinjiri said this on Tuesday when the charity visited the centre to encourage children to pursue their studies.
The charity also supported the centre with money to help in paying primary and secondary school fees.
“We ask you to work hard. The launch of this initiative marks a new chapter in the seven-year partnership between the club and the centre,” said Machinjiri.
During the event, role models delivered motivational speeches.
Steka Childcare Centre project manager Godknows Maseko commended the club, saying the visit inspired the children.
He said: “Your motivational speeches, gifts and financial donation will go a long way. The children were eager to learn from young professionals such as lawyers, engineers, accountants and medical doctors.
“The initiative is timely as we have just opened a new academic year which will ease the pressure for school fees. I would like to appeal to companies and individuals to assist us.”
The Rotary Club of Limbe President Reuben Kamanga hailed Rotaract Club’s initiative, saying they will support Rotaract Club achieve the goal.
Steka is a home for vulnerable children rescued from abusive situations or living alone on the streets of Blantyre.
The centre started its operations in 2007
