Islamic centre dresses orphans

Listen to this article

Faith-based organisation (FBO), Al Hagg Islamic Orphanage Centre in Blantyre on Thursday donated school uniforms and blankets worth K1 million to 76 orphans.

Centre chairperson Sheikh Maulana Siraj said the group set up the orphanage in 2010 to respond to the escalating destitution among orphans in the township.

“They were initially beggars and it has always been our intention to bring them together so we can provide them with proper care and support,” said Siraji.

He said the Centre has since extended its support to orphans outside Blantyre such as Mangochi with financial help from local and international organisations.
